T-shaped Jetty

Mudeford, Christchurch

Sep 2020

Brief

To build a pre-designed jetty as detailed in the customer's planning application.

Solution

A 13m x 2m walkway attached to a 5m x 2m end section T-shaped jetty made from Green Hart timber piles and bearers completed with European oak decking.

Challenges

The first challenge with this project was the completion of the marine management organisation permit application  which took over eight months to process.  With this came several restrictions which were put in place as to when and how the jetty could be built because the location was in a SSSI and area of outstanding natural beauty.  Once we were able to commence the installation, we also faced the challenge of a a tidal sea location.  This always proves a little challenging during the installation process as the work had to be carried out whilst the tide was out and the first week was delayed as the tide did not go out far enough!
