Brief

We were approached by a client seeking a bespoke jetty to access a picturesque lake on their farm. With specific requirements for size, shape, and budget, the client requested that the project be planned remotely due to the farm’s remote location. While not our usual approach, we collaborated via phone and email to finalise the details. The client provided exact dimensions for the jetty and even measured water depths using her dinghy, helping with precise planning for the structure.

Solution

This stunning, remote location required a jetty that was both functional and visually appealing. After discussing material options via email and phone, and sending samples to the client, grey composite decking and cladding were selected for their durability and sleek appearance. The jetty was designed in a versatile T-shape to accommodate multiple uses, including swimming, paddle boarding, and general lake enjoyment. A swim ladder was also integrated to enhance access for recreational activities, ensuring the structure met the client’s desire to fully experience the beauty and functionality of the lake.

Challenges

The biggest challenge of this project was completing it without a prior site visit. Our first time seeing the remote lake was on installation day—not our usual process! Typically, we conduct at least one site visit to discuss ideas and assess the location, often followed by a second visit to take precise measurements after the design is agreed upon.

For this project, trust was key. We relied on detailed information from the client, including dimensions and water depths, to ensure our design was accurate and suitable for the site. Despite the unusual circumstances, the collaboration paid off, and the final jetty met both our expectations and the client’s vision, resulting in a structure perfectly suited to its lovely location.
