Brief
Our client’s beautifully renovated property in Guildford had a picturesque garden and private pond. The original jetty was old and needed replacing, and she wanted a new structure that complemented the surroundings while providing a practical and peaceful place to enjoy the water.
The new jetty needed to suit the natural aesthetic of the property, with a traditional timber finish rather than composite decking, and provide a safe mooring point for her rowing boat. Beyond functionality, it also needed to serve as a tranquil space to sit, relax, and take in the view of the pond.
Solution
We designed and installed a bespoke aluminium-framed jetty, clad with smooth Yellow Balau timber boards to achieve a warm, natural appearance. The structure extends 6.5 metres from the bank and is 3.6 metres wide, offering ample space for both mooring and leisure use.
We re-used the existing concrete piles from the original jetty, carefully adapting the design to fit. The new jetty sits closer to the water’s surface to make access easier from the rowing boat and to accommodate small fluctuations in water level. Mooring cleats were installed to provide a secure tie-off point for the boat.
Challenges
Access to the site was excellent, but we needed to work within the constraints of the existing concrete piles. The team designed the frame to align with the piles and as always, our experienced installation team handled everything efficiently, delivering a durable, elegant result that fits beautifully with the natural surroundings.
We were delighted to receive a lovely testimonial from the client, who was thrilled with how the jetty has transformed her garden and provided a peaceful place to enjoy her pond.
“RA Marine Ltd have been absolutely fantastic to work with, from the inception of the idea to completion. I was initially concerned that the jetty might be too modern, but the team worked closely with me on the design which I love. Manufacture of the frame was swift and the installation seamless. We utilised some historic piles which created some challenges but the team took them in their stride and the result exceeded my expectations. I don’t usually write testimonials, but the experience really justified doing so.” Lauren
