Brief

Frensham Pond Sailing Club has several jetties in varying stages of deterioration and is undertaking a long-term programme of phased replacements. We first worked with the club in October 2022 (see the details here), followed by further replacement works in 2024.

For this phase, the club required a like-for-like replacement of Jetty 7, designed to integrate seamlessly with an existing concrete access ramp and connect to a timber jetty at the far end used for wheelchair access. The timber section had been refurbished previously and did not require replacement, so careful detailing and compatibility were essential.

Solution

We designed and installed a bespoke aluminium-framed jetty, clad with durable composite decking to provide a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution suited to the exposed waters of Frensham Pond.

The jetty was finished with traditional rope fendering using the club’s own reclaimed cruise ship mooring rope.  Our team worked closely with the existing infrastructure to ensure smooth transitions between the concrete ramp, the new jetty structure, and the retained timber section, delivering a cohesive and practical result.

Challenges

A key challenge was the tight programme, as the works needed to be completed quickly to avoid disrupting club activities. The entire installation was successfully completed in just four days, well within the one-week window.

Removing the original timber jetty posts proved more complex than expected. While many could be worked around, a small number needed to be removed to accommodate the new aluminium frame. Despite difficult conditions, the team adapted efficiently to keep the project on track.
